Retirement Announcement for Norton TM ConnectSafe

On November 15, 2018, Norton ConnectSafe service is being retired or discontinued meaning the service will no longer be available or supported. You may continue to use ConnectSafe until November 15, 2018. However, we do recommend that you take a moment to review important details related to this announcement below.

What does ConnectSafe retirement mean to you?
IMPORTANT: Because the ConnectSafe service will be discontinued on November 15, 2018, current users could experience disruption(s) in their browsing experience. If you are a current user, we recommend you complete the following actions prior to the ConnectSafe service termination.

How to remove ConnectSafe settings from your devices (PC, MAC, Router)
Depending on your device operating system, follow the steps below to remove ConnectSafe settings. For additional information regarding the retirement of ConnectSafe, and more detailed instructions on how to remove the service from your device, please click here.

 Windows PC

  1. Press the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type in the ncpa.cpl and then press Enter
  3. Right-click the network adapter that is currently active, and click Properties. If the User Account Control prompt appears, click Yes or Continue.
  4. On the Networking tab, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Click Properties.
  5. To remove Norton ConnectSafe server address settings, click Obtain DNS server address automatically or use the default DNS settings that are provided by your Internet Service Provider. (If the option Obtain DNS server address automatically is already selected, then Norton ConnectSafe is no longer set as your DNS server and no changes are needed.)
  6. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, click OK, and then click Close.

  Mac

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences, then click Network.
  2. In the bottom-left corner, if the lock icon status shows as lock, click it to unlock. Type your admin password and return.
  3. Select the network connection that you want to configure to use Norton ConnectSafe, and then click Advanced.
  4. On the DNS tab, remove the two Norton ConnectSafe IP addresses that you added for the content filtering policy.
    To remove the address, select the Norton ConnectSafe IP address and click the minus (-) sign.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Apply.

  Router

  1. Enter the IP address of your router in a Web browser.
  2. Enter the username and password. (The default username and password are provided in the router's directions).
  3. Navigate through the router menu system and locate the DNS Server settings. It may look like this:
  4. Remove Norton ConnectSafe server address settings, and/or use the default DNS settings that are provided by your Internet service provider, and save your changes. On many routers there is a ‘Get automatically’ setting that will populate DNS settings from your ISP.

Note: If your router came with a setup CD, you can run the CD to access the set-up tools. You will want the Manual router setup, not the automatic or wizard set up. For further assistance, please contact your Internet Service Provider or Router manufacturer.


What is the IP address of my router?
For most home networks, the default router address is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.254. To find the IP address in Windows

  1. On the Windows task bar, click Start, and then click Run
  2. In the Run dialog box, type cmd, and then click OK
  3. In the window that appears, type ipconfig, and then press Enter

The IP address that appears next to Default Gateway is your router address. You may have to scroll up or down to view the details.
